Triploidy

What is Triploidy? Triploidy is where there is an complete extra set of chromosomes. Where we have 46 chromosomes, babies with Triploidy have 69 chromosomes. It starts at conception when the baby starts forming in the womb. Children with Triploidy typically do not survive past the first trimester of pregnancy. If the pregnancy does proceed further miscarriage is highly likely between the 24-28 week of pregnancy. Triploidy is very rare only affecting 1 to 3 percent of pregnancies. Here is a helpful site that was referred to us by our doctors that gives great insight as to what, why, and how Triploidy occurs.
